Item Description

An outstanding, rare and sculptural complete all-around pair of interpenetrating pyrite crystals from the famous Climax Mine of Colorado. The impressive elongated cubes have mirror-bright brass-yellow color and striking cubic and octahedral interference stepped-growth faces. Very nearly pristine, with only one small spot of out-of-sight conchoidal bruising on a face. Mineral specimens are uncommon from this well-known underground and open pit molybdenum mine, as this was a large bulk tonnage operation and collecting was forbidden by management. This fine older pyrite dates to the 1970s or earlier underground mining period from the Stork Level. Ex Lee Burnett Collection fo Morrison, Colorado. Very choice Climax Mine pyrite. Climax produced some of Colorado's finest pyrite specimen. A must for the species or locality collector.
