Item Description

A fantastic and high quality example of the elusive Pyritized Ammonite fossils from the Mikhailovsky Quarry in Russia. The piece is what I would call a "hoppered" or skeletal example with large hollow open chambers, but the supporting edges and exterior shell are completely replaced by tiny crystalline Pyrite. The piece has been cut and lightly polished to better show off the internal beauty. This is one of those cool specimens that is a mineral, a fossil and a pseudomorph all in one!
