Item Description
An historic Pyromorphite specimen labeled only as coming from the Coeur d'Alene District in Kootenai County, Idaho. It's likely that the piece is not even from Coeur d'Alene, as many pieces back in the day were given this designation, but mined east of there in Shoshone County. With that said, the piece comes with a label from Ward's that is many decades old, and was part of the collection of Edward A. Geisler (who lived from 1892 to 1974), and later came to George by way of Fred Parker. This piece hosts many small (up to about 3 mm), but well-formed, light olive-green colored, hexagonal prisms of Pyromorphite measuring up to about 3 mm, largely covering the underlying oxidized matrix. The crystals are very attractive up close and we've provided some macro photos to better illustrate the quality.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 8963; 41.7.2.1 ID.4. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
