Item Description

Mineral specimens from the famous Comstock Lode at Virginia City, Nevada are RARE today, even in museums. The remoteness of the locality and lack of "showy" specimens precluded highgraders, other than for rich ore. The bonanza silver ores were depleted by 1878! This is an old-time, showy, CABINET specimen from the famous Savage Mine consists of glassy, transparent to translucent, quartz crystals to about 3.0 cm. There are very few broken crystals for such a rich specimen and the periphery wear is a minor detraction on such an historic, old piece. Rarely are mine locations known for Comstock Lode specimens, so this piece is exceptional. Ex Russel Jones Collection and comes with an older Minerals Unlimited label. Valued at $300-500, for the locality, age and richness.
