Quartz on Malachite and Manganoan Calcite (RARE & rare locale) Sherburn Coll.

Item Description

VERY RARE and colorful large combination from a most obscure copper mining area in DR Congo. The sculptural rolling vug is filled with very pretty, translucent, pastel-pink manganoan calcite microcrystals. Scintillating drusy quartz covers much of the calcite. Green malachite blebs and malachite included in the calcite and quartz are a striking contrast and accessory. The calcite with quartz and malachite covers over half of the back, as a bonus. The one abandoned open pit copper mine in the area listed by MINDAT - the Kalabi MIne, lists Malachite, but there are NO photos in the locality Photo Gallery. The MINDAT mineral list for the mine DOES NOT list Manganoan Calcite or Quartz. Ex Tim Sherburn Collection and acquired at the Denver Show in 2017. Very fine and RARE combination material from the locale.
