Item Description

While this region is well-known for producing high-quality specimens of Calcite and of Quartz, these rare pseudomorphs are seldom seen in collector quality, if at all. Quartz has completely replaced the original, bladed Anhydrite crystals on this pseudomorph specimen. This would have formed inside an Amethyst geode or tube. The fan-shaped geometry of this small cabinet piece is dramatic in an understated way, and quite attractive. Face on, it reminds me of a classic, hand-held fan, and from the side it looks like the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. The coloration is highlighted by small splashes of green, pink, and tan, all set on white. For the size, it actually is an excellent example of these pseudomorphs, in good shape and without damage. Definitely not something that you find every day. Formerly in the extensive collection of W & A Cook.
