Item Description

Here we have one of the classic pseudomorphs from the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado. This piece features beautiful, well-formed pseudomorphs of lustrous, sparkling, "drusy" Quartz crystals after tabular and crystals of Anhydrite. The largest pseudomorph measures 3.6 cm on edge. No damage, outside of the underside where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you're a Quartz collector, do you have one of these specimens from Ouray in your collection? PLEASE NOTE: For many years people have written that these epimorphs / perimorphs / "casts" were replacements of Quartz after Barite. It was mentioned on mindat.org that "Dr. Virgil Lueth, New Mexico Tech, concludes from studies that these and all San Juan quartz epimorphs apparently after barite are in fact after anhydrite". From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/
