Item Description

A large, nearly one-inch thick slab of a very rare pink variety of Agate from the Rio Grande do Sul State of Brazil. This color is an exception to the color of these Agates from the basalts of the Rio Grande do Sul area. This very engaging, asymmetrically banded piece has alternating, mostly concentric pale pink (dominant) and medium pink bands that vary from 1 to 5 mm in thickness with billowing areas that look like variegated pink striped clouds and also some elongated knots of the darker pink at the bottom. The periphery of the pink area is surrounded by a dove gray-pink rind that is from 1 to 2.5 cm thick exhibiting some subtle internal textures. It has a great polish on the front and the opposite side has a smooth cut. An unusual and beautiful Agate for the locality.
