Substantial and attractive, this impressive, old-time Amethyst is unusually from Larimer County, Colorado - an unusual location for great amethyst! The crystals in this cluster are very large, and the good luster and wonderful form really help to highlight the deep, rich purple color. Complete-all-around save for the base, this cabinet specimen is in excellent condition. This is an exceptional and aesthetic Colorado Amethyst. Formerly in the collection of Richard V. Gaines (and also carries a Dave BUnk label, which helps confirm this strange location). If it had not these labels, I would have assumed it to be a small Bolivian amethyst rather than a giant and deep purple amethyst from Colorado! This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
