Item Description

Quartz is found in nearly every color of the rainbow, but BLUE Quartz specimens are notoriously rare. This small cabinet display specimen features several sharp, gemmy / translucent, hexagonal prisms of Quartz with a beautiful rare blue internal color (best seen with backlighting) caused by micro inclusions of blue Indicolite Tourmaline sitting on matrix. The Quartz crystals are compressed along the a{1000} face and measure up to 2.3 cm long. A couple of the crystals are actually doubly-terminated, and appear to have been exposed by removing a bit of the underlying matrix. I've only had a few of these to offer over the years, and it's significant not only for the rare color, but the rare locality as well. There are not many specimens from the Katerina Mine on the market, and if you're a fan of pegmatite minerals or specimens from San Diego County, do not miss out on this one. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) accompanied by a label from Russ Behnke. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
