Bright blue, heart-shaped, clean gem of good color cut from material originally collected by Geary Murdock, the legendary Idaho field-collector. Perfect gem for jewelry or a rough-and-cut set. 6.70 carats and eye clean, well cut, this is a stunning stone and one of only a handful that have truly legitimated provenance. Comes with letter of provenance from Alan Murdock (Geary's son), from whom Arkenstone bought the family collection stash in 2018. Jim Houran bought this directly from us at that time, and it has never been on the market. The stone is thought to have come from finds in the mid to late 1980s. It is difficult to value stones like this, where the history and location MATTER compared to modern material from other places that looks the same. I would say that when a significant rare locality stone looks as good as you wish it would, with no allowances for lesser quality simply because it is from somewhere interesting, it should be worth 3-5x what a comparable gem from more common lcoales are worth. This was valued in the Houran collection at $2000-2500.
