Item Description

Richmond cordierite specimens set the worldwide standard for the species and this aesthetic example shows why. Unlike the ugly material from most places, this impressive and rare piece has excellent aesthetics! It is a classic style, but rarely seen in an aesthetic and balanced specimens. The dramatic pair of sharp and sharply terminated, lustrous, orthorhombic crystals have a waxy mottled gray-brown look to the prism and termination surfaces and attractively rest in a matrix of cordierite and quartz. The large crystal is 5.7 cm. The crystals are nearly pristine, with just one small spot of frontal side wear and two small out-of-sight dings on on a back termination edge. Classic, outstanding and rare material in this quality from the Robert Whitmore Collection. Valued at $1500.
