Raspberry Grossular Garnet (ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection)

These are some of the most distinctive and attractive Garnet specimens from any world locality. This is an excellent and showy specimen of these well known Garnets. The piece features attractive, sharp, lustrous dodecahedral "raspberry" color crystals of Grossular measuring up to 1.4 cm on matrix from this famous locality that produced specimen in the mid-late 1990s. Good specimens are not common on the market anymore. A few nicks keep the piece from being 100% damage free, but you don't see Garnets with this color from virtually any other locality in the world. A wonderful small cabinet sized piece of this now hard to find material. Priced at $1,500. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
