Item Description

Gorgeous rich cherry-red, gemmy and lustrous tabular cinnabar prisms are dramatically and richly scattered on the sculptural triangular small cabinet plate. The striking central dominating terminated prism is 2.3 cm tall. This most impressive and colorful piece has many fine display views, which are only minimally diminished by the scattered periphery wear and bit of interior bruising. A very fine and rich specimen from the famous and ancient Shimen Mine, the largest realgar mine in China. The mine has been active for over 1500 years (MINDAT) but specimens are now uncommon - this is from 1990s finds. Ex Mervyn Ford Collection.
