Item Description

Rhodochrosite is one of the most beloved and desirable minerals in the world, and a large part of that is due to the specimens from the famous Sweet Home Mine in Colorado. The best of these specimens are simply the most attractive, finest quality and awe-inspiring examples of a species that is literally found in thousands of localities around the world. These specimens are not only in high demand, but they are even more sought after since the Sweet Home Mine is completely closed / reclaimed (though the nearby Detroit City Mine is currently active and has produced Rhodochrosite specimens). This gorgeous miniature sized piece features predominant sharp, translucent, strong glowing red color single rhomb of Rhodochrosite measuring 3.4 cm across associated with a small amount of white "needle" Quartz and sulfides (Pyrite, Sphalerite, Galena, etc.) on the base. The piece is complete all around, and there is no real damage. The edge of the Rhodo crystal has a bit of "stepped" and interrupted growth, but it's not broken, but it actually looks to be partially re-crystallized. A classic specimen of this world-famous, high quality material. Priced at $5,500 retail in the inventory.
