Item Description

Not only is Mont Saint-Hilaire one of the most prolific and distinctive species-producing localities ever, it even has unique Rhodochrosite specimens! These are not your typical Sweet Home rhombs or even the classic "dogtooth" habit crystals from South Africa, but rare trigonal twins! It almost reminds me of a compressed "Spinel" twin. This particular piece is a very sharp, translucent and well-formed twinned crystal with a glowing reddish-orange color when backlit. This is classic for MSH, but certainly different from Rhodos from virtually any other world locality. Ex Charlie Key personal collection. Charlie is arguably the most successful dealer of the second half of the 20th century, along with being the namesake for TWO mineral species (Keyite and Ludlockite).
