Item Description

When it comes to faceted gems of Ruby, most of what you'll see on the market today have been mined in Myanmar (Burma). Unfortunately, that supply of material from around Mogok is now completely shut off due to the pandemic and political unrest in the nation. A few months ago, we were told that there is no mining in Mogok, and the marketplace has been abandoned. There are other places in Southeast Asia that produce good Rubies, but the supply seems to be running short. Ruby from Thailand is not terribly common on the market today, and this particular stone is a great example of the old classic gems from years ago. This stone is a wonderful "Oval Brilliant" cut gem with rich pinkish-red color and some visible inclusions. Odds are this stone has been treated to improve its clarity, which is a perfectly safe and accepted practice in the gem world, so long as both the buyer and customer are aware that the stone has been treated. With demand at a high point, the prices being paid for top Rubies these days is as big as ever, as these gems still command a premium value on the market.
