The Mundarara Mine is world famous as one of the most prolific Ruby producers ever known. The locality has been known since 1949 and is still active today. Some collectors might be familiar this material, and not even realize where it comes from. The combination of the deep plum-red colored Rubies in the glowing blue-green massive Zoisite matrix creates some truly iconic specimens. I've seen some impressive Ruby crystals from this locality, but the added bonus of this material is that it serves a great purpose in the lapidary world. Many of you are probably familiar with the famous Gerd Dreher toad that was carved from this material ( https://www.gemguide.com/dreher-carvings/animal-carvings-by-gerd-dreher-carved-toad-in-ruby-in-zoisite-from-tanzania/ ). Here we have a fine example of this well-known material in the form of a beautiful carved Ruby flower sitting among green Zoisite leaves. The piece has excellent detail and form, and truly looks beautiful from all directions. Specimen weight is 117.70 grams.
