Ruby with Rutile

Item Description

This is a gorgeous, doubly-terminated, single, impressive Ruby crystal measuring 2.7 cm in length and superb on its own merits. As a bonus, however, it has a sharp 4 mm Rutile crystal inset into one face, for great accent. The Ruby has a vivid, red-pink color that is amazing, and the color saturation is as good as you can ask for; and the waxy luster is superb. It checks all the boxes for a significant Mogok ruby in this size range. It is elongate prismatic with modified pinacoid terminations; and the crystal ranges from gemmy to translucent but requires little backlighting. This is a gorgeous Ruby crystal that exhibits brilliant red fluorescence in long wave UV light, as well. This piece has all of the characteristics one could want in a competition level thumbnail Mogok Ruby that makes this one stand apart from others. Ex. Bill Larson collection. Bill is known to be one of the first and most prolific of the mineral dealers who brought out so many minerals from this region in the heyday, when it was open. This was purchased in country by him during travels there prior to 2008, and has remained in his personal collection of Burma minerals since that time (and, which we purchased in large part, in 2020). This is the only such association piece of quality, that we are aware of. It is a one-off. Valued $5000-6000 for the ruby alone.
