Item Description

Safflorite, a Co-Ni-Fe-arsenide, is known from the Marienberg District of the historic Erzgebirge, but not from this most obscure locale. MINDAT does not list this mine. This is a very rich ore specimen of sparkly, metallic, microcrystalline to granular safflorite with possible matte native arsenic. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5561 and acquired from the Frazier's in the Summer of 1966. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Probably old-time material, but no proof. Safflorite is rare from this District.
