Item Description

Sapphire is one of those gems that comes in literally every color of the rainbow. Most people are very familiar with the classic blue Sapphires from places like Sri Lanka, but I would make the argument that a fine pink Sapphire gem is just as desirable and arguably less common on the market. This particular stone is a real stunner, as it has an electric pink hue with a slight purplish overtone. The intensity of the color, combined with the excellent internal clarity (only VERY very slight inclusions) make for a gem that just sparkles with intense color. What makes this stone even more impressive is that it's NOT from Sri Lanka, but rather Madagascar. That's not to say that Madagascar hasn't produced Sapphires in the past, but this color and quality is quite rare in my experience. If you're familiar with the market on pink Sapphires, then you're aware that there has been a surge these last few years, as good stones are being purchased in Asian markets at much higher volumes and prices. This is because in Asia, pink Corundum gems are also considered Rubies. Outside of Asia, these gems are considered pink Sapphires. Stones like this are certainly what I would call collector quality, especially because it's well over 2 carats, and the color is just stunning in person. Valued at $5225.00 retail for the color, quality and the fact that we rarely seen Sapphires like this from Madagascar.
