Item Description

These now classic and incredibly elusive Scheelite specimens came from a discovery in the late 1990s and feature the wonderful combination of large fine Scheelites crystals on beautifully contrasting green Fluorite matrix! This piece hosts a large, very sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy / translucent pseudo-octahedral crystal of Scheelite with a mix of golden and smoky brown hues sitting atop a layer of seafoam green Fluorite matrix. Now the Scheelite is complete on the main front face, but it is partially incomplete in areas around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. It's still in very good shape overall, and when you backlight it, the color at the top corner really shines through. Honestly, the crystal reminded me more of a Powellite than Scheelite, which makes sense because of their relation to one another, but you just don't see Scheelites quite like this from any locality. Of course because this is Scheelite, it shows a fantastic white-blue fluorescence under SW UV light, and the Fluorite shows some blue fluorescence under LW UV light. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the piece is that it actually stands up on its own without the aid of a base or clay! You can't find these on the market anymore, and if you missed out on them years ago, don't pass this one up as it hosts one of the largest (6.2 cm) crystals I've seen from the find. Priced in our inventory at $1,800.
