Item Description

A hard to find group of lustrous, sharp, jet-black crystals of Schorl Tourmaline from Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. The piece really doesn't have any matrix, as it's a solid group of crystals, and it's essentially crystallized all the way around. The broad termination on the top of the piece is highlighted by many fairly thin, striated prismatic faces on the rest of the specimen. There are a few nicks, but overall the piece is in pretty good condition. You can't find these pieces anymore as this is OLD material, and if you collect Tourmalines or Mexican minerals, this is worth adding to your collection as it's showy and three-dimensional. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1177). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
