India has vast regions of what are essentially minerals formed inside and trapped in the bubbles in the volcanic lavas from when the plate carrying India slammed into the bottom of Asia and created the Himalayan Mountains about 100 million years ago. Within those vast deposits, there are thousands of specimens being recovered of a group of species known as zeolites. Scolecite is a hydrous calcium aluminum silicate that is a member of the Zeolite family, and these cavities from India produce what are BY FAR the best in the world. This is a large, cabinet sized example of the typical Indian style, but in a quality and size, and condition, rarely seen. It is 10 inches across, and just dramatic! The matrix base of pink stilbite provides a welcome contrast. This is an old specimen, from decades ago. Comparable pieces today still come out occasionally, and run in the $10-12,000 range. Please note that this large specimen is delicate and can only be delivered by hand, which we will arrange somehow, with a little patience, to most places.
