Item Description

Senegalite is an incredibly rare hydrated aluminum hydroxy phosphate that is only found in FOUR localities in the world. The species was described in 1976 and was named after the nation of Senegal, the site of the type locality. As a matter of fact, outside of the type locality, the only other country where Senegalite is found is Brazil. Here we have a lovely small cabinet specimen loaded with sparkling beautiful yellow-green crystals of Senegalite which are partially associated with thin layers of stark sky blue Turquoise in vugs of Limonite matrix. The color and quality are excellent for the species. If you collect rare species or minerals from the type locality, do not miss out on this one as they are rarely offered for sale these days. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016) with a label from Sal Avella of Apple Valley Minerals in Smithfield, Rhode Island. David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
