Item Description

Mineral specimens from the famous Comstock Lode at Virginia City, Nevada are RARE today, even in museums. The remoteness of the locality and lack of "showy" specimens precluded highgraders, other than for rich ore. The bonanza silver ores were depleted by 1878. This OLD-TIME, VERY RICH silver ore consists of beautifully burnished, curved and curled, silver wires in a matrix of SOLID acanthite. The free-standing and clustered silver wires are facinating. Value?? Surely, $300-400 minimum, for the locality, age and richness. Ex Irv Brown Thumbnail Collection.
