Smithsonite

Here is an unusual and very three-dimensional cabinet specimen of Smithsonite from the Tsumeb Mine. There are scores of gemmy, super lustrous crystals that cover most of the matrix and they vary in size from 0.7 to 1.5 cm in size. These lovely, translucent to locally transparent Smithsonites glisten like double-ended diamonds and provide great contrast with the red-brown and gray matrix. These are unusual for NOT having the normal colors associated with Tsumeb smithsonites, the absence here of copper or cobalt, for example. The piece sits perfectly on its own to show off all of the gleaming crystals on the ridges and in the slightly concave areas on this handsome piece. A Tsumeb classic!
