A three-dimensional specimen of Smithsonite from the most famous of localities, Tsumeb. The piece has eye-catching form, which when combined with that fantastic form of the crystals, makes for a very showy and desirable piece. The crystals themselves are beautifully modified, giving them a unique habit that is truly reminiscent of Tsumeb. Internally, the color ranges from a soft yellow-peach tone to smoky silvery hues, and some of the crystals show good gemminess when backlit. The vitreous surface luster, combined with the well-formed faces, makes each individual Smithsonite stand out from one another. The crystals are also not tightly intergrown, so there is a little bit of room between them to appreciate individual shapes. A small amount of soft blue Hydrozincite can be seen here and there for a nice touch and break of color. It doesn't get more classic than Tsumeb, and Smithsonite is certainly one of the signature species from the locality, which has been found in a wide variety of habits, colors and varieties. Priced at $5,500 in the inventory.
