Item Description

Translucent, matte luster, orange-brown smithsonite with nubby surfaces has pseudomorphed dogtooth calcite scalenohedrons on this sculptural, rich and showy mounded replacement from the famous San Antonio Mine at Santa Eulalia. The pseudos reach about 2.5 cm. The bruised and broken crystals on the periphery reveal that these are smithsonite epimorphs or shells, with hollow interiors visible. Older classic material from the 1999-2000 finds. Ex Dr. Peter Megaw Collection, noted Mexico specialist, collector, dealer and author. Valued at $800 on one of his past labels for exchange/deaccession. This is a richer color, than you normally see from such pseudos form the 8th Level. High quality and classic large smithsonite pseudomorph from the locale.
