Item Description

This piece reminds me of the the famous intense yellow colored Smithsonites from the Rush Creek Mining District in Arkansas. In both cases the strong color is caused by inclusions of the cadmium sulfide Greenockite, but it should be noted that these are not classified as "Cadmium Smithsonite". This small cabinet sized specimen features a central vug loaded with gorgeous, resinous / vitreous, translucent, groups of crystallized colorless Smithsonite which have a beautiful yellow color from Greenockite inclusions. The matrix is somewhat porous and heavy due to the presence of Galena. The majority of the Smithsonite crystals are pristine, and the only real damage is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. A great piece for any fan of Smithsonites, Lavrion minerals or you can pair it with a Rush Creek specimen to show the similarities and differences between these attractive Greenockite-bearing specimens. These are RARE on the market, and a piece of this size and quality is certainly sought after and desirable among collectors.
