Item Description

Mineral specimens from the obscure Fargo Mine on Hiriart Mountain of the Pala Mining District are VERY RARE. MINDAT has NO photos of specimens from the pegmatite. An aesthetic spray of gem teal-blue to indicolite-blue to purple tourmaline crystals, to 2.2 cm, are embedded and enclosed within a terminated complete all-around water-clear to translucent light smoky quartz crystal with water-clear to frosted satin lustre termination and prism faces. There are a couple of tourmalines on the back. The sculptural 360-degree smoky is nearly pristine with only bit of bruising on the back of the termination. The mine was located in 1904 and has been worked intermittently with some to limited success for tourmaline and quartz. See MINDAT: https://www.mindat.org/loc-91583.html for more mine information. Norm Dawson acquired the mine in 1948 and the pegmatite is now on Indian Land as of 1992. Formerly in the Josie Scripps Collection. Josie was a prominent California collector and benefactor of minerals and this comes with her label and a handwritten note by Bill Larson. Read about Josie at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/scrippsjosephine/. Ex Bill Larson San Diego County Pegmatite Collection and long on display at his Pala International shop in Fallbrook. An exceptonal, old, RARE Fargo Mine indicolite and quartz combination with a fine provenance. A MUST for the species or locality collector! Value?? We've never seen anything like it. These are simply not for sale at any price and we were fortunate to get this old collection of such treasures. When they are gone...they are gone~!
