Item Description

A RARE 3.5 cm, pristine spessartine garnet trapezohedron is jauntily perched atop the blocky quartz, feldspar and garnet matrix on this excellent small cabinet combination rarity from a most obscure locality on Little Cahuilla Mountain in Riverside County. The lustrous motttled mostly opaque reddish-brown crystal has areas of pretty areas of orange-red translucence under bright light. MINDAT does not list a Crystal Annie Mine for Little Cahuilla Mountain. This fine rarity is probably from a small 1990 find by Ken Gochenour. See the 1990 Mineralogical Record reference in Vol. 21, No. 5, P. 482. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A rare and exellent matrix spessartine from the obscure locale. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
