Item Description

The famous Stari Trg Mine is the central mine at Trepca and has produced some amazing display specimens over the years. This locality is well-known for its beautiful sulfides and even has produced some impressive pieces of phosphates like Vivianite and Ludlamite. This piece is a great old historic specimen featuring very sharp, lustrous, well-formed, jet-black colored, "Spinel"-twins of Sphalerite measuring up to 1.3 cm associated with a few small "rosettes" of white Calcite and minor Pyrite. The piece is in great shape overall, and the quality and form of the Sphalerite twins is textbook! Hard to photograph, but it's really eye-catching in person. No damage that I can find on the display side. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2727). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
