Item Description

A well known combination of species in aesthetic condition and large size from this important European mining district, of soft steel grey mostly small (up to 1.3cm) cubic crystals of Galena interspersed among large (up to 2.4 cm) sharp tetrahedral crystals of metallic black Sphalerites from Madan Bulgaria. A number of the Galena cubes exhibit a bizarre skeletal habit that occurs from this locale. Most of the Sphalerites show well defined striations. A significant portion of the Sphalerites have a green, possibly chlorite, clay coating. A strong indication that this piece has never been cleaned. Some bumps and bruising are noted as seen on both the Sphalerite and Galena. Still a very geometric and textural feeling piece. As well as being a little heavy at 4.0 pounds. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl.
