Item Description

A cool locality piece labeled as coming from Potter Pass, Fresno Co., California featuring sharp, well-formed, lustrous, octahedral crystals of Spinel measuring up to 4 mm on matrix. The color may look black in reflected light, but with some strong backlighting, I can see the color is a hue of purple, ranging from a dark inky grey in the larger crystals to more of a silvery hue in the smaller crystals. I've never seen a piece with this locality before, and if you collect minerals of California, don't miss out on picking this esoteric piece for your collection. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11207). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017. The piece is accompanied by a label from the collection of Ernest W. Chapman.
