Item Description

An incredibly rare (for the locality) specimen of Stibnite from the now defunct Lucky Knock Mine (Lawrence Mine) in Washington state. This is certainly the best specimen of this material that we've had to offer, and one of only a handful that we've seen over the years. This locality finished production in 1951, so the piece is at least 70 years old. A group of notably thick, fairly sharp, semi-lustrous, striated, silvery-grey metallic prisms of Stibnite are intergrown to form a three-dimensional display specimen free of matrix. There is actually very little damage to the piece, and it would probably benefit from a little cleaning as it appears to have some pocket clay (?) embedded on the surface. Very attractive, IMPOSSIBLE To find on the market now and a MUST HAVE for any sulfide collector, a fan of US minerals, or specifically minerals of Washington. Valued at $650-$750. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11859) with an old label from Ernie Holloway. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
