Item Description

Please note: Tetrahedrite is no longer a singular species, as it has now been broken into three IMA-recognized end-members (Tetrahedrite-(Fe), Tetrahedrite-(Zn) and Tetrahedrite-(Hg)). There are also suspected additional Tetrahedrite species that have yet to be verified. We're listing this simply as "Tetrahedrite", though if you look on mindat.org, you'll see specimens listed under the Tetrahedrite Subgroup. With that said, you can't identify the species visually, they require chemical analysis, so it's impossible to know specifically which species of Tetrahedrite this is without having the analyzed. With that said, this is a beautiful specimen of the classic pieces from the Mundo Nuevo Mine featuring fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, dark grey-black colored tetrahedral crystals of Tetrahedrite measuring up to 1.2 cm associated with minor colorless Quartz sitting on a knob of Pyrite matrix. There are some small black crystals of what is presumably Sphalerite overgrowing the Tetrahedrites, but they could possibly be the rare copper arsenic sulfosalt, Lautite. A beautiful display quality specimen of these excellent Tetrahedrites.
