Item Description

Thomsonite, a Zeolite Group species, is RARE from the numerous localities listed by MINDAT for Iceland. The exposed vug in the sculptural small cabinet basalt pillow hosts two Zeolites, Thomsonite and more common Chabazite. A 1.5 cm bladed thomsonite 'fan' is prominently visible against a large blocky, glassy, chabazite rhomb on the side of the vug. There is more bladed thomsonite to the left against the wall of the vug. A much larger 2.2 cm bladed thomsonite is wedged into the corner of the vug. The end view of the vug shows part of the large thomsonite and more bladed thomsonite on the floor of the vug beneath the wall of glassy chabazite rhombs. Iceland is one of the great old classic locales for Zeolites, and many were first found here in good crystals long before Indian Zeolites came to market.
