Item Description

This specimen was mined in 2013 in Aurangabad, India where some of the finest contemporary Thomsonite specimens have been found. I'm sure most people are probably familiar with these attractive, rather smooth spheres, but I feel like these specimens don't get the attention they deserve for their size and quality! Outside of the New Jersey Trap Rocks, these Thomsonites from Aurangabad are arguably the finest examples of the species extant. This is a fantastic display specimen from the same locality featuring several semi-velvety radiating spheres of Thomsonite measuring up to 2.2 cm across in a sculptural formation associated with a few blades of off-white colored Stilbite, along with tiny peach colored crystals on Heulandite sitting on minor matrix. The best aspect of the piece is the fact that it's not the ordinary white hue that is often seen in Thomsonite, but it shows a rare reddish-brown hue that is nearly unheard of for the species. A wonderful dispaly piece of one of the rarer Zeolite species out there. No damage that I can see with the naked eye. Valued at $750 retail.
