Item Description

This is a colorful, gemmy and lustrous, polychrome tourmaline from recent finds on a small gem-rough claim near Coronel Murta, Brazil. This crystal displays beautiful colors that start with a pale pinkish, 8 mm thick area at the base that has some fracturing and then quickly transitions into a 5 mm thick very gemmy, medium pink zone with a relatively abrupt gradation to a 1 cm thick, rich pink zone and then back into another 5 mm thick medium pink zone. The next subtle transition is into a 5 mm, gem olive green zone that extends to the perfect termination. This Elbaite crystal is gemmy throughout much of its length with local, veiled, horizontal internal fractures. Its prism faces are nicely striated and the crystal displays a very fine and sharp pyramidal termination giving the piece additional character. 7.54 grams
