Item Description

Fantastic, OLD, polychrome tourmaline aesthetically set in glassy, transparent to translucent quartz crystal matrix from an obscure pegmatite in Riverside County - the Anita (Sage) Mine. The fascinating, lustrous, glassy, translucent, striated, pink, olive-green and black 4.2 cm parallel-growth crystal is highlighted by dramatic multiple terminations. The mine was operated in the early 1900s for tourmaline for the China market, with very little further information until 1994. See MINDAT: https://www.mindat.org/loc-8455.html for further information on the mine. Formerly in the Josie Scripps Collection. Josie was a prominent California collector and benefactor of minerals and this comes with her label; and Bill Larson's handwriting on the back. Read about Josie at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/scrippsjosephine/. Ex Bill Larson San Diego County Pegmatite Collection and long on display at his Pala International shop in Fallbrook. An exceptonal, old, RARE and sculptural Anita Mine tourmaline and quartz combination with a fine provenance.
