Item Description

A uniquely shaped "clam shell" ulexite with a striking ulexite seam projecting outward from the famous U.S. Borax open pit mine. The shimmering acicular crystals resemble a clam shell, giving the piece its name. "These were found in the mud/shale at the top of the tunnel near the big portal to the Boron underground mine that opened into the bottom of the open pit (Rock Currier). These RARE and fantastic looking old-timers date to the 1960s. Acicular blocky ulexite, when cut and polished perpendicular to the long axis of the crystals is known as TV rock, for its fiber optic effect. Ex Cook Collection. We feel very lucky to have picked up the large collection of Bill and Anne Cook of Cleveland, recently. It is a tribute to their long efforts, how many interesting minerals and old localities were preserved and carefully labelled so you can see them now. Bill and Anne collected for at least 60 years. These fascinating old-timers are RARELY on the market today.
