Item Description

An intriguing cluster of elongated Vanadinite crystals from the San Carlos District in Mexico: The Vanadinites are lustrous, sharp, hoppered, and the color ranges from orange-red to olive as you go from one side of the piece to the other. The hoppering is well-defined, and the overall look is almost that of a frozen Vanadinite waterfall. Aesthetic, interesting, and unusual. The geologists among you might even think of this as the Vanadinite version of columnar jointing. It is an exquisite miniature of a VERY old style, seldom seen today! This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. Donated to the Rice Museum by a local donor, for this benefit auction.
