Item Description

Here we have a wonderful collector quality Vesuvianite from the famous and now closed Jeffrey Mine in Quebec, Canada. It's rare to find a faceted Vesuvianite over 1 carat from this locality, especially in this clarity, and any gem that weighs over 1 carat qualifies for "collector quality status". The Jeffrey Mine produced some of the most iconic specimens of Vesuvianite from any locality in the world. You'll find a wide range of colors for the species including green, yellow-green, emerald green, orange, purple, red, and various shades in between. Despite the large number and wide range of colors for the crystals, they are rarely gem quality, and only a few pockets produced crystals with clean areas worthy of faceting. This stone is one of the better examples of faceted Vesuvianite that I've seen from Jeffrey. It has a beautiful honey-gold color, with nearly eye-clean clarity and an "Oval Brilliant" cut. While Vesuvianite is considered a rare gemstone, this particular stone is even more desirable for collectors because of the prestigious locality. Please note, often in the gem world, you will see Vesuvianite labeled as "Idocrase" which is an archaic synonym that is no longer valid.
