Item Description

This is a fantastic, three-dimensional, showy display specimen of Vivianite from one of the most famous localities in South America, the Siglo XX Mine (20th Century Mine) in Bolivia. Subscribers to the Mineralogical Record know that an entire issue was dedicated to this unique and historic locality. This full cabinet sized specimen hosts a pair of fine quality, sharp, well-formed, "sword"-shaped, GEMMY, emerald green color, prismatic crystals of Vivianite measuring up to 3.8 cm long sitting atop a matrix comprising little "balls" of Wavellite which are coated by Limonite sitting on partially altered Pyrite matrix. This material is rarely seen in today's market and this particular specimen dates back to the early 1970s. No damage that I can see with the naked eye, and it's so aesthetic! It's very important to note that while the piece is quite attractive, the crystals PAST LIGHT WHEN BACKLIT, which is not terribly common for Vivianites from Siglo XX. A superb quality, eye-catching, three-dimensional display specimen from this renowned locality. Valued in the inventory at $4,500.
