Item Description

A fantastic thumbnail specimen of these beautiful Wavellites from the locality owned by Henry de Linde. Wavellite is known from many world localities, but the finest and most colorful specimens in the world are found in Arkansas. This piece features a predominant, fine quality, beautiful light green colored "ball" of Wavellite measuring 1.3 cm across with a few smaller "balls" on minor matrix. My favorite aspect of the piece is that the main sphere is complete on the front, and it's not contacted or intergrown with another Wavellite, so it's beautifully isolated and perched perfectly at the top of the specimen. You'll see a lot of incomplete and just plain broken spheres of Wavellite from the various localities in Arkansas, so when you find a showy thumbnail like this, it's significant. The back of the specimen is contacted, but it allows one to view the various layers of deposition / growth featuring multiple shades of light and dark green Wavellite "banding". A true classic from Arkansas, and a great piece for any thumbnail collector. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
