Item Description
Tiger is one of the most beloved mining districts in Arizona, producing some of the most distinctive and colorful minerals of anywhere in the state. The classic Wulfenites from Tiger are a staple of any Arizona collection, or even a worldwide Wulfenite collection, as they are richly colored and fine quality. This piece is a fantastic full cabinet-sized display piece featuring dozens of excellent, very sharp, strong orange colored, tabular blades measuring up to 5 mm on edge, on matrix. Patches of yellow Mimetite can be seen in several spots on the specimen for a nice touch, and there appears to be light grey botryoidal Smithsonite or Willemite underneath the Wulfenites. Most of the Wulfenites are undamaged, and look beautiful up close, but there are some contacts on the piece, so it's not completely pristine. Still a fine quality, eye-catching and desirable display specimen from this incredibly well-known locality.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 48.1.4.1 AZ.22; 8274. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
