Wulfenite (classic material)

Item Description

Wulfenite from Tsumeb is one of the most highly sought after species of the hundreds found at this famous locality. This piece features a predominant, good sized, sharp, lustrous, fairly thick, rich orange colored tabular crystal of Wulfenite measuring 1.8 cm on matrix forming a showy and fine quality thumbnail sized specimen. Now the top corner of the specimen is NOT broken, but rather has an interrupted / incomplete growth (presumably where it grew against another Wulfenite crystal or the pocket wall), and I looked it closely with a loupe to see there are small reflective crystallized faces on the back, and I don't really see actual damage. Interestingly, when you look into the corner, you can see there's a small hollow opening, which could have formed as the result of a crystal of another mineral species growing directly into the Wulfenite and later dissolving away. Regardless, it's still a really interesting and eye-catching specimen of one of the premier mineral species from what most people consider to be the world's greatest locality. I don't have to tell you that the value of Tsumeb specimens seems to rise daily, and fine quality specimens are now highly sought after, and prized more than ever by dealers and collectors alike.
