Item Description

Pristine, rich and remarkable large combination specimen from a RARE recent Chinese find in early 2021. The impressive, sculptural field of sharp, dogtooth calcite crystals is preferentially covered with lavender to purple Yttrofluorite. The striking dominating calcite is 4.5 cm tall. A second generation coating of gemmy, sparkly, very glassy microcrystalline to drusy calcite is a super accessory and complement. Yttrofluorite is a variety of fluorite containing an appreciable amount of trivalent yttrium (Y). Yttrofluorite is not commonly purple. It was originally reported as a species in Norway in the early 1900s, but was discredited and reclassified as a variety of fluorite in 2006 (MINDAT). This recent new find from China was a total surprise, and simply makes for a beautiful combination and style. Valued at $1500-2000.
