Item Description

Superb, small miniature composed of bladed Zincolivenite (formerly known as "Cuproadamite" on old labels) crystals that form a distinct, bouquet-like cluster on the matrix. The bladed crystals range up to 8 mm, and they are glassy with a beautiful and intense kelly green color. Historically, these crystals from Tsumeb have been labeled as 'Cuproadamite', but recently the species has been found instead to be a different, related cousin (end-member of a chemical series, to be precise. It is now being relabeled as Zincolivenite, to be technical.) This is a fine, aesthetic miniature specimen, with a rich covering of attractive crystals. Valued $1000-1200. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums. Donated to the Rice Museum by a local donor, for this benefit auction.
